Sony will use new “WhiteMagic” display technology for its upcoming Sony Ericsson LTE22i “Nypon” prototype device. The newest technology will allow the display of Nypon to be as bright as the Nokia 701 in outdoor mode. Obviously, after rebranding the name of the smartphone will be shortened by Ericsson moniker and called just the Sony Nypon.

As for the general mode, the display technology takes half less energy than the typical LCD displays. So you will have a twice longer battery life, which is an issue for most high-end devices of popular manufacturers.
The Sony Nypon will be based on Android OS, while instead of using the typical Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, the manufacturer decided to replace it with ST-Ericsson’s NovThor dual-core chipset. This is just another step to include more and more company-based products for its smartphones.
If you’re rather excited about the new display and want to learn more about it, then this is your chance. Watch the comparison video demonstrating the iPhone 4 and the Nokia 701. The first handset has a 600-nits display, while the Nokia 701′s 1000 nits is identical with the one we expect for the Sony Nypon.
