Sony Kumquat to be Renamed to Xperia U

Obviously none of us expects the Sony Ericsson “Kumquat” to hit the stores with such a strange name. It’s just a codename, which needs a quick change. Otherwise what does it mean? No news Sony Ericsson was rebranded to Sony, so we’ll not have that suffix on the upcoming handsets. As for the device’s key name it’s Sony Xperia U.

We expect the device to be launched at Mobile World Congress in February in Barcelona. It comes equipped with a 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 480×854, a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU and a 5 megapixel rear camera. The device has a design similar to that of the Xperia S, but it’s slightly smaller.

We still don’t have the names of the Sony Nypon and the Sony Pepper. Most likely by their launch Sony will have come up with a refreshed naming system.
